Choosing a register for a stall: what really matters at the market
Power, signal, a readable screen and a tidy cash close. Here is how to test a register in stall conditions before you commit to hardware and a subscription.
A register for a stall has to suit the place where you sell: a small table, hours outdoors, a device you move around and a queue that arrives all at once. Before comparing features, practice your daily actions with the products, the device and the connection you plan to use.
What do you check on site?
- Power and battery: test a full working day in similar conditions, including screen brightness, printing and connected hardware. Bring a charger or a suitable backup.
- Signal: check the network at your location and during your opening hours, especially at busy times.
- Readability: make sure you can read the price and quantity in the sun or under the venue's lighting.
- Station: leave room for packing, cash and a payment terminal, and check that the device is stable and easy to clean.
A phone, a tablet and a dedicated device each strike a different balance between portability and screen space. You do not need to decide by the number of products alone. Try a typical basket and see how easy it is to add an item, change a quantity and give change.
How do you test speed without guessing?
Prepare five typical sales: a single item, several units, a mixed basket, a discount and a split payment if needed. Time it from adding the product to completing the process. Pay special attention to repeated searches and to screens that are easy to get confused on.
Arrange products and categories so the common ones are easy to find. Also test correcting a mistake. A fast sale is no use if it is hard to remove an item tapped by mistake. In KupaLi you can learn product search and the cart in the first sale guide.
What works if there is no internet?
Ask for a detailed answer for each type of action. In KupaLi, offline work is for cash and check sales, on an account where the feature is active and on a device that was set up in advance with a connection. It is not offline card processing.
Vouchers, credits, redeeming points, coupons and returns need an online check. Once the connection is back, make sure the saved sales were sent and deal with any items that need checking. Before a fair, practice disconnecting and reconnecting during the trial period and read the troubleshooting and offline guide.
How do you link a card payment to the sale?
In KupaLi, card payments are currently taken on the business's external terminal, and the sale is recorded on the register according to the payment approval. Check signal, cost and operation of the terminal with your card processor. A device that looks like a terminal in a photo is no proof of an integrated card processing link.
If you are considering mobile hardware, ask for the exact model, specs, warranty and information about the printer and connections. KupaLi's mobile register is a device format. The plan, the hardware price and its availability are checked separately.
How do you keep cash and staff in order?
- Open a shift with the starting cash amount.
- Record cash in and cash out of the drawer even when they are not a sale.
- Give each employee their own user and personal code.
- Count at the end and compare with the expected amount.
Besides change for the customer, check how returns and cancellations are handled and who may approve them. When staff swap, locking the register and logging in with their own code helps assign actions clearly.
What hardware and documents do you really need?
A printer and a scanner can save work, but whether they fit depends on your sales pace, your products and your business requirements. Do not assume that a receipt by message always replaces a printed document. Check with your accountant which type of record you need and how to hand it over and keep it. The guide to documents and the computerized cash register brings the questions together.
Also check licensing with the local authority, especially if you sell food. A starting point is the business license application service (in Hebrew). The register does not replace licensing or following the price display rules.
What do you compare in the total cost?
Write down the subscription by number of branches, add-ons, hardware, card processing, connection and support. KupaLi has two plans: Register at ₪79 and Smart POS at ₪119 per branch per month + VAT. The loyalty club is included in Smart POS. Compare them on the pricing page. Also check what the service includes when you need help while the stall is open.
Before deciding, run a mock working day: sales, a correction, a count and a report. Go through it again with whoever will cover for you at the counter. That way you find out which actions still need explaining or a change at the station.

What else do people ask?
Can you choose a register from a photo of the device?
Not enough. You need to check the model, battery, screen, printing and connections, and practice the sales process. A hardware photo is no confirmation of integrated card processing.
Can you take card payments without a network in KupaLi?
KupaLi's offline mode is not offline card processing. It is for cash and checks, when it is active on the account and on a device that was set up in advance.
What must you check at the end of the trial day?
Compare the counted cash with the expected amount, and check that actions are assigned to employees, returns and cancellations, document issuing and the sync of sales saved while disconnected.
